The Virtual Conference

The Virtual Conference was opened on Monday 11th May at 6:30pm during DG Jane Owens  eConnections presentation.

This is the first Virtual Conference for D9500 – and the last Conference for District 9500

Cancellation of District Conference

Dear fellow Rotarian,

It is with deep regret and a heavy heart that I inform you that the 2020 District Conference in Whyalla will not be held as originally planned.

This has been an extremely difficult decision and was only taken after much discussion by the conference committee.

The spread of Covid 19 is a serious event outside of our control.  Although cases in SA are low at present it is important that we take containment of the virus in our community seriously.  The decision was reached after careful consideration of advice from government and Rotary risk and insurance.  The following statement is part of a longer statement from Peter Kaye, Chair of the Zone Insurance & Protection Committee:

“From a risk management perspective, we should be mindful of the age demographic of our Organisation and consider the welfare of members above any commercial aspects of the things we do, and on this basis, recommend that you consider cancellation of planned Conferences / Rotary events. We believe that it is prudent that all events up to and including the 30th April 2020 are considered as a minimum.”

The Conference committee will be working to bring some aspects of the conference to you as a virtual conference.  Details of this will be a matter of future communication.

Refunds of conference payments will be made and you will be notified how this will be done once details have been worked out.

I would like to thank all Rotarians for their support of the conference and especially the committee members, the Whyalla community and everyone who has worked on preparation for the event over the last 18 months.
To our Sponsors, we thank you, without your support we would not have been able to bring the conference this far.  Our apologies for any inconvenience this has caused you.

On a personal note, I would just like to commend the Conference team, who for the past eighteen months have worked tirelessly to bring to you the best and last Conference for District 9500.  It has been a pleasure working with them.
